HYM Steel

Dexter Joseph

HYM Steel was formed in 1986 by Denis Joseph at an exciting time when the Music Service in the London Borough of Harrow was expanding and diversifying. It has undertaken many continental tours to France, Germany, Holland and Italy. HYM Steel has performed at the Notting Hill Carnival and regularly performs at local charity events.

Dexter Joseph teaches steel pans for Harrow Music Service. He also runs jazz workshops for parents and teachers. Dexter played with his family band Ebony from the age of 11. He went on to arrange for Ebony, Glissando and Pan Masters in Washington DC. Dexter’s theatre work includes performances in Felix Cross’s Mass, Carib and Integration Octet. He has recorded with Billy Ocean, Richard Bailey and guitarist Ciyo Brown. Dexter has written a number of compositions for HYM including Tiger, El Niño and 4UJC which is dedicated to John Coltrane.
