HYM Sinfonia
Conductors: Richard George and Hazel Correa
HYM Sinfonia was conducted from 1988 to 2006 by Peter Moss. Richard George, who had been conductor of HYM Academy Strings for fifteen happy years, succeeded in 2006. At its recent concert, Hazel Correa performed Vivaldi’s Autumn from The Four Seasons with Sinfonia.
Richard grew up in Ealing and began learning the violin at the age of five. He studied at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music. Since then he has enjoyed a varied freelance career, playing with orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra, recording music for television and film, and playing on the occasional Caribbean cruise.
Recently he has been recording the music for BBC series Doctor Who and Torchwood as well as appearing on the soundtrack for the musical The Lord of the Rings. Richard recently lead the orchestra in the West End musical Gone With the Wind.
On a positive note, Richard’s sceptic tank in France is now fully functional.
Hazel Correa is a former student of HYM and led the Philharmonic. Having completed her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, she has returned to Harrow for teaching and freelance playing. She has appeared on television with Lionel Richie and Dame Edna Everage and recently played on the War of the Worlds tour alongside its composer Jeff Wayne and Justin Hayward (of the Moody Blues).
Hazel joined HYM to conduct Academy Strings in 2002.
