PO recommended recordings 2010

Philharmonic Orchestra are performing works by Stravinsky this term (Apr-Jul 2010)

 

 

Mark's recommended recordings of The Rite of Spring
Best performance is Stravinsky's own 1960 version, with Columbia Symphony Orchestra,

   recorded 1960.

Can be bought as part of the complete Stravinsky works in performances conducted or supervised by Stravinsky, now available on Sony.

Classic recordings, a must for any serious collector - 'dated' sound though (it was 1960!)

 

Best all round combination of performance and 'modern' recorded sound is Rattle with CBSO - also available as part of a good value box set (3 early ballets and other Stravinsky works) on EMI Classics.
