HYM Academy Strings
Conductors: Hazel Correa and Fay Millard
HYM Academy Strings was formed in 1976 and gives our youngest string players the first opportunity of ensemble playing. Previous conductors have included Barrie Townsend and Richard George. For many years it made trips to Brittany, France, giving concerts in Cancale, St Pern and Dinard.
Hazel Correa is a former student of HYM and led the Philharmonic. Having completed her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, she has returned to Harrow for teaching and freelance playing. She has appeared on television with Lionel Richie and Dame Edna Everage. Last year, Hazel played on the War of the Worlds tour alongside its composer Jeff Wayne and Justin Hayward (of the Moody Blues). Hazel joined HYM to conduct Academy Strings in 2002.
Fay Millard is also a former student of HYM. After completing her studies, Fay enjoyed a year working in Australia and now teaches for Harrow Music Service.
